Nicky Robertson

Director of Programmes & Strategy

Nicky has over 30 years’ experience in rural and community development and has been involved with CharChar since 2017 when she visited our work in Malawi and was inspired by the huge potential she saw. She leads our programme development, organisational strategy, and manages our network of volunteers to ensure CharChar is connected and focussed on the goal of accelerating, and increasing, pupils’ literacy.

Sarah Gordon

Fundraising Manager

Sarah is both a fundraiser with seven years’ experience in the education sector and a qualified English teacher, so was motivated to volunteer for CharChar having seen first-hand the importance of literacy not only in allowing children to achieve their academic potential, but as a vital tool that will empower them throughout their lives.  As a Bid Writer she applies for grants from trusts and foundations to enable CharChar to transform literacy teaching in Malawi through teacher education.  Sarah’s aim is to inspire funders to change many more children’s lives for the better through literacy.

Toby Gould

Digital Fundraising Manager

Toby works within the non-profit sector and brings over five years of digital experience to CharChar Literacy. He manages CharChar’s digital channels, such as the website and emails, to make it easy for our supporters to engage with our work. His aim is to bring CharChar’s impact and stories to life and bring more people on board with our mission to bring literacy to children in Malawi.

Damian Kenny

Training Advisor

Damian was a District Health Officer in Malawi for 3 years and then worked as a GP in England. While in Malawi he developed continuing education for all health workers in his district. In England he supported trainee GPs and developed ongoing education for the GP Educational Supervisors who teach trainee GPs. He brings his experience of adult learning to the online video support sessions with the teacher trainers in Malawi. He is keen to help the Malawian teacher trainers use modern adult learning techniques to help student teachers develop their skills of helping children in Malawi learn literacy and numeracy.
